BCAA One Millionth Membership

3D art, art direction, graphic design, Illustration

The BCAA 1 millionth membership celebration campaign was a significant event that marked a major milestone for the British Columbia Automobile Association. To commemorate this achievement, the project aimed to create a memorable visual icon that would spearhead the celebration campaign.

The visual icon, designed to be a badge, was the centerpiece of the campaign, which also included a commemorative medallion and a custom backpack. The team at Chairman Ting hand-drew 1500 unique digital collectibles, known as BC Bun characters, which represented the diverse and vibrant community of British Columbians. These collectibles, each with over 200 distinct visual traits, were assembled and programmed by the talented team at Tangible, with both studios working together as co-creators and creatives to bring the NFTs to life.

To ensure energy and cost efficiency, the digital collectibles were hosted on the Solana blockchain. All three components of the project were gifted to all BCAA employees as part of the celebration campaign, providing a tangible way to commemorate the association's significant milestone

To celebrate BCAA's 1 millionth membership, we teamed up with Tangible to create 1500 unique digital collectibles on the Solana blockchain as giveaways to all 1500 of their employees. Every single character trait and background elements were hand drawn by the Chairman Ting team which consisted of three local Vancouver illustrators, Carson Ting, Lynol Lui, and Annika McFarlane. The bespoke 3D BC Bun was meticulously designed and assembled as looping animations by the Tangible team. A close collaboration between the two studios brought all 1500 of these digital collectibles to life.

Building 1500 unique NFTs with 3D character models, blending in 2D illustrated background environments and incorporating character traits seamlessly as a looping animation was a labour-intensive, meticulous, and time-consuming process.

The Chairman Ting team had to hand-draw each of the 1500 digital collectibles, while the Tangible team ensured that each one had over 200 distinct visual traits, which required a great deal of skill, precision, and attention to detail.

The task of assembling and programming the NFTs was handed over to the talented team at Tangible, who worked closely with the Chairman Ting team to ensure that the NFTs would come to life as intended. The process of bringing the NFTs to life involved integrating 3D character models with 2D illustrated backgrounds, blending the two seamlessly to create a looping animation that showcased the character's traits.

Creating 1500 unique NFTs that were visually appealing, highly detailed, and technically advanced required a significant investment of time, effort, and resources. The teams involved had to work meticulously, ensuring that every aspect of the project was executed with precision and accuracy to meet the project's high standards and achieve the desired outcome. Despite the challenges, the end result was a set of 1500 unique, visually stunning NFTs that showcased the diversity and vibrancy of the British Columbian community.
